About the residency
Yaddo is a legendary artists' community in Saratoga Springs, New York, founded in 1900 by Spencer and Katrina Trask. The Trasks, grieving the loss of their children, envisioned a retreat where creative minds could work in solitude and community. Since its first residencies in 1926, Yaddo has hosted thousands of artists across disciplines, including writers, visual artists, composers, and choreographers. Its mission is to nurture the creative process by providing uninterrupted time, space, and a supportive environment. The estate's historic mansions and studios offer a rare blend of privacy and collegiality, allowing artists to focus deeply on their work without the distractions of daily life.

Planning your application
Applications are accepted through an online portal with specific deadlines for different disciplines. Artists should submit a concise project proposal, work samples, and references. The selection process is highly competitive, so clarity of purpose and evidence of a serious artistic practice are essential. Yaddo values both emerging and established artists, but applicants should demonstrate a compelling need for residency. It is advisable to research the community's ethos and tailor the application to highlight how uninterrupted time at Yaddo would advance the proposed work.
