About the magazine

Abraxas Review is an online literary journal founded on the principle that poetry should remain a site of risk and inquiry. Taking its name from the Gnostic deity that unites opposites, the journal seeks work that holds tension without resolving it—poems that are as comfortable with fracture as with form. Since its inception, Abraxas has prioritized emerging and underrepresented voices, offering a digital space where the strange, the spare, and the unclassifiable can coexist. The review is not aligned with any school or movement; instead, it curates each issue as a provisional constellation, guided by an editorial ethos of attentive reading and generous skepticism.

Submitting your work

Reading periodOpen now

Abraxas Review accepts poetry submissions via email during announced reading periods, typically listed on its website and social media. Send 3–5 poems in a single .docx or .pdf file, with a brief cover letter that includes your name, contact information, and any prior publications. Simultaneous submissions are permitted, but notify the editors immediately upon acceptance elsewhere. The journal does not charge reading fees and does not offer payment, though contributors receive a digital copy of the issue. Response times vary from two weeks to three months; please query only after three months. The editors appreciate work that demonstrates attention to line, image, and the possibilities of silence. Avoid overly explanatory cover letters or submissions that mimic prevailing trends; instead, trust the poems to speak for themselves.
