About the magazine

Alchemy: A Journal of Translation is a literary translation journal based at the University of California, San Diego. Founded on the conviction that translation is a creative and interpretive act rather than a mere transposition, the journal publishes translations of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction from around the world, often accompanied by original-language texts and translators' notes. Its mission is to foreground the translator's labor and artistry, fostering a space where linguistic and cultural boundaries are examined with rigor and imagination.

Editorial focus

Alchemy publishes fresh, engaging textual and visual translations as well as experimental works that challenge the act of translation. It welcomes translations of poetry, prose, dramatic works/dialogues, letters, reviews, cross-genre/unclassifiable work, and visual art, mainly by students and emerging translators. Alchemy is based at University of California, San Diego in the Literature and Linguistics departments and is edited and published by students.
