About the magazine

Apricity is an online literary and arts magazine founded in 2020 with the aim of publishing work that captures the warmth of creative expression in a often cold digital landscape. The magazine takes its name from an archaic term meaning 'the warmth of the sun in winter,' reflecting its commitment to nurturing emerging and underrepresented voices. While originally focused on poetry, fiction, and visual art, Apricity has expanded to include performing arts, recognizing the need for a dedicated space for scripts, performance texts, and documentation of live work. The magazine publishes quarterly issues and maintains a lean, editor-led structure that prioritizes careful reading and equitable access.

Editorial focus

Apricity is an international multimedia arts magazine and is the University of Texas at Austin’s official literary and arts magazine. It accepts literary, visual, and performing artworks for online publication and select the finest to showcase in their annual print and digital editions. It is the successor of Analecta , the previous literary and arts magazine of UT Austin.

Unsolicited submissionsYes

Apricity accepts submissions year-round via its website, with no reading fees. Simultaneous submissions are allowed with immediate notification of acceptance elsewhere. They encourage work from BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, and other marginalized artists. Response times are typically 4-6 weeks. Before submitting, read at least one recent issue to understand their aesthetic, which favors clarity, emotional honesty, and innovative form over shock value. Include a brief cover letter with your pronouns and any access needs.

We appreciate a strong deliberation in voice and content. The rhetoric and style must be as polished as possible.
