Editorial focus
Ark Review was founded in 2023 as a literary journal to spread creative perspectives on ecological justice. An offshoot of the environmental nonprofit Everything Starts Small, the journal aims to highlight both emerging and established authors.
Submitting your work
Ark Review welcomes submissions from both emerging and established artists. They prioritize work that demonstrates a serious engagement with spiritual, philosophical, or existential themes, but they are not looking for propaganda or easy answers. Before submitting, read several past issues to understand the journal's tone and range. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask to be notified immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. Response times are typically 4-6 weeks. Include a brief cover letter that contextualizes your work, but avoid over-explaining. They value concise, polished pieces over sprawling ones.
We want unique stories that tell us something new about our relationship with the environment, i.e not stereotypical dystopias. We value optimism and innovative ideas. This could be through absurdism, cultural identity, and more. The environment or environmental justice should play a central role in your piece.
