Editorial focus
The Aurora Journal publishes surrealistic poetry and prose that is ethereal, dreamy, and explores the dangerous limits of surrealism. Regardless of age, experience, or any other defining factor, the journal considers all writers. The editors encourage submissions from LGBTQ+, BIPOC, women, nonbinary, trans people, disabled folks, and other intersecting marginalized writers. This is a platform for writers to break the mold of who gets to be “acclaimed” in the literary world.
Submitting your work
Before submitting, read at least one full issue to understand the journal's aesthetic range. Aurora Journal favors work that demonstrates a strong sense of voice and a willingness to take risks, but it also values clarity and emotional resonance. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify promptly if your work is accepted elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter with your submission, and adhere strictly to the genre-specific guidelines on the website. Response times vary, but the editors aim to reply within three months.
The Aurora Journal looks for writing that is surreal, ethereal, mystical, and explores the dangerous limits of surrealism. We want to see poets who understand the vision we have for the Journal. If you have a piece resembling anything from a fever dream, nonsensical yet profound musings, to love letters addressed to no one, send them in. We’d love to see it.
