About the magazine

Braided Way: Faces & Voices of Spiritual Practice is a digital publication and community platform founded in 2015 to explore the intersections of spirituality, art, and social justice. Rooted in the belief that spiritual practice is inherently creative and communal, the organization publishes essays, interviews, poetry, and visual art that amplify marginalized voices and contemplative perspectives. Its core mission is to foster dialogue across traditions, disciplines, and identities, offering a space where the sacred and the artistic are woven together.

Editorial focus

Braided Way is a publication of the nonprofit Spiritual Quest Foundation, showcasing the faces and voices of spiritual practice. The editors publish beautiful, honest, wide-awake work by new and established writers. They seek pieces exploring spiritual development that show respect for the diversity of and interconnection between the world’s faith traditions. They nominate for the Pushcart Prize, Best Spiritual Literature, and Best of the Net. (No AI-assisted submissions will be considered.)

Artists and writers should approach Braided Way with work that engages spiritual or contemplative themes in a nuanced, non-proselytizing manner. The editors value authenticity, intersectional perspectives, and creative risk-taking. Before submitting, review past issues to understand the tone—reflective, poetic, and socially conscious. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify promptly if work is placed elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter explaining how your work aligns with the mission.

The "spiritual" is there to acknowledge every path including agnostic, mystic, Catholic, Buddhist, pagan, Flying Spaghetti Monster, all of it. We do not publish exortations or denunciations. Awe, wonder, and the full spectrum of experience welcome.
