Editorial focus
Founded in 2001, Collision Literary Magazine is a student-run publication that accepts poetry, creative nonfiction prose, literary criticism, art, and photography by undergraduate students. Their goal is to represent a variety of young voices emerging from the contemporary body, as well as to extend the dialogue by providing constructive feedback to those writers they are unable to publish at the time. Additionally, the top three submissions in poetry and nonfiction prose are awarded cash prizes.
Submitting your work
Collision accepts submissions from undergraduate students, primarily but not exclusively at the University of Pittsburgh. They seek poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual art. Writers should submit polished work that demonstrates originality and a willingness to experiment. Simultaneous submissions are generally accepted, but notify promptly if your work is accepted elsewhere. Reading periods are typically announced at the start of each semester; check their website and social media for specific deadlines. Include a brief cover letter with your submission, and adhere to any genre-specific guidelines (e.g., word limits). As a student-run magazine, response times may vary, so patience is appreciated.
Please send all written pieces in one Word file with the titles bolded. Do not include your name in this document. Along with your attached material, please include your name, contact information, school name, and a brief third-person biography in the body of the e-mail. Send no more than five poems or 3,000 words of prose/literary criticism. See our website for more information.
