About the magazine

Contrapuntos is an independent publishing and curatorial platform founded in 2015 by a collective of writers, translators, and artists across Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. Taking its name from the musical term for interwoven, contrasting lines, the project was conceived as a response to the homogenizing pressures of globalized art and literature markets. Its core mission is to foster dialogue between experimental writing and contemporary art practices, with a particular emphasis on multilingual and cross-disciplinary work that resists easy categorization. Operating nomadically—through print editions, digital archives, and temporary exhibitions—Contrapuntos functions less as a fixed institution and more as a recurring provocation: a space where dissonance is not resolved but held in productive tension.

Editorial focus

Digitus Indie Publishers is now accepting submissions for the 2027 edition of Contrapuntos XIII . This issue does not have a specific theme but welcomes a variety of submissions, including prose, poetry, essays, reviews, photography, interviews, and academic articles. The editors are particularly interested in works that engage with humanistic topics in the United States, with no regional restrictions on submissions.

Contrapuntos accepts submissions on a rolling basis, with periodic open calls announced via its website and newsletter. Artists and writers should approach the platform with a clear sense of how their work engages with the intersection of text and image, or with multilingual/translation-based practices. There is no house style, but there is a house temperament: work that is conceptually grounded, formally restless, and resistant to resolution. Proposals should include a concise project description, relevant work samples, and a note on how the project might function within a contrapuntal framework—i.e., in dialogue with other voices rather than as a standalone statement. Response times vary; patience is expected. Unsolicited full manuscripts are discouraged unless requested.
