About the magazine

The Dolomite Review is an independent literary and arts journal founded in 2018 by a collective of writers and artists seeking a platform for work that engages with landscape, memory, and the intersections of natural and built environments. Taking its name from the mineral dolomite—a rock that forms through slow geological processes—the journal emphasizes writing and art that is patient, layered, and attentive to the material world. Its core mission is to publish emerging and underrepresented voices alongside established practitioners, fostering a community that values craft over trend and depth over speed. Since its inception, the Review has maintained a biannual print edition and a rotating online supplement, featuring poetry, short fiction, essays, and visual art that often explore ecological and spatial themes.

Editorial focus

The Dolomite Review is a quarterly literary magazine publishing fiction, poetry, and essays that linger long after the final line. Rooted in Michigan and inspired by the Midwest, it champions emerging American voices and thoughtful storytelling shaped by depth, honesty, and craft. Named for the ancient dolomite formations of Drummond Island, it seeks writing that is grounded, layered, and quietly powerful—work that captures the complexity of place, memory, and the moments that stay.

Unsolicited submissionsYes

Before submitting, read at least one full issue to understand the journal's aesthetic and thematic preoccupations. The editors favor work that demonstrates a strong sense of place, material specificity, and formal control. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. The Review charges no reading fees for standard submissions and typically responds within three to four months. Include a brief cover letter that contextualizes your work without over-explaining it. Visual artists should query first with a link to an online portfolio.

Authors do not have to be living in the Midwest, but must have some connection here. We favor strong narrative, even in poetry. We do not publish themed issues, but the Midwest must have a strong presence. Please read the submission guidelines for formatting and please edit your copy before submitting. Remember to include a short bio. Do not include links to your social media and/or websites.
