About the magazine

Drift & Dribble Miscellany is an independent literary magazine that emerged from a desire to create a space for writing that resists easy categorization. Founded in the early 2010s by a collective of writers and editors, the magazine takes its name from the meandering yet purposeful qualities of drift and the playful, incidental nature of dribble—a nod to the unpredictable currents of creative nonfiction. The magazine is dedicated to publishing essays, memoir, and hybrid forms that prioritize voice, experimentation, and intellectual curiosity over market-driven trends. Each issue is thoughtfully curated, often orbiting a loose theme, and features a mix of emerging and established writers. The Miscellany has become known for its discerning editorial eye and its commitment to work that feels both urgent and timeless.

Editorial focus

The Drift & Dribble Miscellany publishes an eclectic compendium of stories, poems, essays, and dribbles, and especially those works that capture the uniqueness and beauty of inhabiting our complex human world. The society has an artistic bent and welcomes literary and experimental work, personal accounts, complex characters and surreal or witty takes from the surrounding cornucopia, and look for writing that is interesting in its depth or play.

Unsolicited submissionsYes

Before submitting, read at least one full issue to understand the magazine's aesthetic and editorial preferences. They favor nonfiction that is deeply personal yet universally resonant, with a strong sense of craft and a willingness to experiment with structure. Avoid overly polished, generic personal essays; instead, send work that feels necessary and surprising. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify promptly if your piece is placed elsewhere. Response times can be slow, so patience is advised. Always include a brief cover letter that situates your work within the magazine's interests, and adhere strictly to the stated word count and formatting guidelines.

Those with unusual perspectives and original thinkers are especially encouraged to submit. Formulaic genre-focused work is not our focus. We are looking for those writers who spend their time developing their work rather than marketing and, as such, we don’t publish resumes. Work stands on its own. Let’s see what you have.
