About the magazine

The EastWest Literary Forum was established in 2015 as a nonprofit dedicated to bridging literary cultures across geopolitical divides. Founded by a collective of translators, poets, and scholars, it emerged from a series of informal salons in Istanbul and New York, aiming to foster dialogue through the written word. The Forum operates with a mission to publish and promote literature that traverses cultural boundaries, with a particular emphasis on translation, multilingual poetics, and essays that interrogate the politics of language. Its programming includes a biannual journal, an annual translation prize, and residencies that pair writers from different regions in collaborative projects. The ethos is one of rigorous inquiry and cross-cultural hospitality, prioritizing work that engages with the complexities of exchange rather than merely representing diversity.

Editorial focus

This magazine is for bilingual (and trilingual) readers and writers. All texts on this site are published with translations—into English if the text is in Russian or Ukrainian, and into Russian or Ukrainian if the text is in English.

The Forum welcomes submissions of poetry, fiction, and essays, with a strong preference for works in translation or that engage multilingualism. Before submitting, familiarize yourself with the journal's aesthetic—read at least one recent issue. Translations should include the original text and a brief note on permissions. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify promptly if placed elsewhere. The reading period is typically from September to November; check the website for updates. Cover letters should be concise, highlighting the work's relevance to the Forum's mission. Response times average 3-4 months; queries after that are appropriate. The Forum values clarity, originality, and cultural specificity over thematic trends.

Submissions are closed to authors. Only translators from Russian or Ukrainian are encouraged to submit.
