About the magazine

EcoTheo Collective is a nonprofit arts organization founded in 2015 by a group of artists, theologians, and environmental scholars. Its mission is to foster interdisciplinary dialogue between ecological and theological perspectives through contemporary art, literature, and critical theory. The collective operates as a decentralized network, hosting residencies, exhibitions, and publications that challenge anthropocentric narratives and explore themes of stewardship, apocalypse, and interspecies kinship. Rather than a fixed gallery, EcoTheo functions as a roving platform, partnering with churches, forests, and community centers to situate art in unexpected contexts. Its ethos is one of contemplative engagement, prioritizing process over product and fostering slow, sustained inquiry into the spiritual dimensions of the climate crisis.

Artists should first familiarize themselves with EcoTheo's mission and past projects, as proposals that do not engage with ecological or theological themes are unlikely to be considered. The collective favors work that is research-driven, contemplative, and adaptable to non-traditional spaces. Submissions typically require a project description, artist statement, and work samples. There are no fees for residency applications, but artists are encouraged to propose projects that can be realized with modest budgets. Response times can be slow; patience is advised. Building a relationship through attending events or contributing to publications can improve chances.
