About the magazine

Eye to the Telescope is the quarterly online journal of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Poetry Association (SFPA), founded in 2005. It publishes speculative poetry that engages with science fiction, fantasy, horror, and myth, with each issue curated by a different guest editor. The journal has become a central venue for formal and free verse that explores the fantastic, from hard science fiction to surreal fabulism. Its founding ethos is to provide a dedicated, accessible platform for poetry that might otherwise be marginalized within genre publishing, and to foster a community of poets and readers who value both imaginative reach and lyrical precision.

Editorial focus

Eye to the Telescope, a quarterly online journal, began publishing science fiction, fantasy, horror, and other speculative poetry in 2011. It is run by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Poetry Association. Each issue has a different theme and guest editor.

Before submitting, read at least one recent issue to understand the range of styles and themes the journal publishes. Each issue has a different guest editor with specific thematic or aesthetic preferences, so check the current call for submissions carefully. Submit only through the designated email or submission system during the reading period; simultaneous submissions are generally discouraged unless stated otherwise. Use a standard manuscript format, include a brief cover letter with your genre poetry credentials (if any), and proofread meticulously—editors value clean, polished work. Response times vary by editor, but expect several weeks to a few months. Do not query about status until after the stated response period.

Each issue is guest-edited and features a different theme. Submission guidelines will vary for each issue. Launch dates as of 2026 are February 15, May 15, August 15, and November 15.
