Editorial focus
Since 2007, the Fairy Tale Magazine has offered fairy tale lovers a space to publish their own tales, read the classics again, and enjoy classic fairy tale art. Please visit their site to learn about their submissions guidelines and the kind of fairy tale–related works they publish.
Submitting your work
Writers should familiarize themselves with the magazine's aesthetic by reading several issues before submitting. Fairy Tale Magazine seeks stories that engage with fairy-tale tropes in fresh, unexpected ways, avoiding mere pastiche. Submissions should be original, previously unpublished, and typically range from 1,000 to 5,000 words for fiction. Poetry and non-fiction queries are also welcome. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter with your submission, and allow up to three months for a response. The magazine values diverse perspectives and encourages submissions from underrepresented voices.
Read the guidelines and old stories or poems published on the website before submitting. Also, note that the submission window opens and closes twice a year for our no-fee submissions and once (in May) for our contest (fee to enter), so please visit the site many times before submitting. We do not offer editorial feedback. This is not a young children’s publication.
