Editorial focus
The Fictional Café is a nonprofit literary magazine that publishes short fiction (short stories, novel excerpts), poetry, fine art, audiobooks, and audio dramas. They also offer a two-year Residency Program for poets and fiction writers who excel in their field and demonstrate a strong desire to take their writing careers to the next level. Residents’ work will be featured prominently on their site and in their anthology.
Submitting your work
Read several past issues before submitting to understand the range of work the editors favor. They respond well to writing that feels spoken rather than performed, and to visual art that retains a handmade or provisional quality. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please withdraw promptly if placed elsewhere. Include a brief note about how the work might function in a live or intimate setting, as the café ethos remains central to their editorial decisions.
The Fictional Café seeks submissions from writers and poets of all different backgrounds in all styles and genres to celebrate the creativity of the world and the unifying power that an online café can foster.
