About the magazine

Five on the Fifth is an online literary and arts journal founded on the principle of monthly thematic curation. Since its inception, the publication has dedicated each issue to a single theme, inviting writers and artists to submit work that engages with that prompt. The journal's ethos is rooted in accessibility and community: it seeks to provide a platform for both emerging and established voices, with a particular emphasis on work that is concise, evocative, and resonant. By releasing a new collection on the fifth of each month, Five on the Fifth establishes a reliable rhythm that encourages sustained creative practice and readership.

Before submitting, carefully review the current theme and the journal's specific word or size limits, as adherence to these parameters is a primary criterion for consideration. Five on the Fifth favors work that directly and creatively interprets the monthly prompt, so avoid generic submissions that could fit any theme. Simultaneous submissions are generally accepted, but notify the editors promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Proofread meticulously; while the journal is open to various styles, polished prose and clear presentation are expected. Response times may vary, so patience is advised, and always check the website for the most up-to-date submission windows and guidelines.

Please ensure that your story is free of typos and grammatical errors. Submissions should be in proper manuscript format (Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced), with no page numbering or identifying information (name, address, phone number, etc.) anywhere on the manuscript itself— that’s what the cover letter is for. Cover letters should be concise, professional, and in third-person. We do not publish novels, fan fiction, experimental pieces, articles or research papers. We also do not publish erotica, though there can be erotic and/or graphic elements in your fiction, as long as they are tasteful and for the purpose of telling a great story.
