About the magazine

Floating Acorn Review is an independent literary and arts journal founded in 2018 by a collective of writers and artists seeking a space for work that resists easy categorization. From its inception, the review has prioritized writing and visual art that engages with ecological thought, speculative futures, and the poetics of place, without adhering to a single aesthetic or political line. Its mission is to foster a community of readers and contributors who value slowness, attention, and the materiality of language and image.

Editorial focus

Floating Acorn Review publishes fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction which traverses the delicate boundary between the natural world and the human spirit. The editors highly encourage diverse voices from all walks of life to offer their sense of wonder and profound insights.

Before submitting, read at least one full issue to understand the range of work the review publishes. They favor writing that is attentive to language and environment, and art that engages with process or place. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify them promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Expect response times of two to four months; query only after that period. Include a brief cover letter with your submission, and avoid sending more than one submission per reading period unless explicitly invited.

We are fascinated by the understated beauty of everyday experiences. From the soft early morning murmurs of a coffee shop to the contemplative nature of 3:00 AM train rides, we welcome any work with vibrant descriptions, resilience, and the ability to resonate deeply with the reader’s soul.
