About the magazine

Floriography is a New York–based studio and project space that takes its name from the Victorian language of flowers, a coded system through which sentiments were conveyed via botanical arrangement. Founded with an ethos of indirect communication and material sensitivity, the organization operates at the intersection of contemporary art, craft, and literary practice. Its mission is to cultivate exhibitions, publications, and residencies that privilege nuance, slowness, and the poetics of the overlooked. Rather than pursuing spectacle, Floriography fosters an environment where artists can develop work that speaks in whispers as much as declarations.

Editorial focus

Floriography is a literary publication that showcases essays, poetry, fiction, interviews, and visual art exploring memory and creative healing. The magazine uplifts emerging and established writers whose work is rooted in personal narrative, community histories, and distinctive storytelling. Floriography functions as a living archive—preserving voices, place-based memory, and creative practice across generations.

Artists should approach Floriography with a clear sense of how their work engages with materiality, language, or the natural world. Submissions that demonstrate conceptual rigor and a willingness to work at an intimate scale are favored over large-scale, high-production proposals. Include a concise artist statement, documentation of recent work, and a brief note on how the project aligns with the studio's interest in coded or subtle communication. Review timelines are typically generous; patience is expected.

Floriography accepts rolling submissions year-round. We welcome emerging and first-time writers alongside established voices. Work that blends history and personal narrative is especially encouraged. A small submission fee supports our operations as a small press. Contributors retain rights to their work. Send one or two polished pieces that feel distinctly yours. We’re drawn to strong voice, specificity, and work grounded in lived experience or place. We encourage you to read a few pieces on the site before submitting so you understand the tone and range we publish.
