About the magazine

Gaslamp Pulp is an independent publisher and literary project operating online, with a focus on books, chapbooks, and children's literature under 20,000 words. Founded as a response to the increasingly homogenized landscape of commercial publishing, it positions itself as a home for concise, voice-driven work that might otherwise fall between the cracks of genre and literary fiction. Its ethos is rooted in the pulp tradition—accessible, imaginative, and unpretentious—while maintaining a clear editorial eye for craft and originality. The press favors manuscripts that demonstrate a strong sense of narrative economy, whether in the form of a novella, a collection of short stories, or a picture book for young readers.

Submitting your work

Reading periodOpen now

Before submitting, read the guidelines carefully: Gaslamp Pulp only considers complete manuscripts under 20,000 words, including children's books. Do not query with partials or proposals. Because the press is small and online-only, response times can be slow; simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify immediately if your work is placed elsewhere. Your cover letter should be brief and professional, stating the word count, genre, and any relevant publication history. The editors value concision and narrative drive, so avoid lengthy synopses or marketing language. If your work is accepted, expect a collaborative but hands-off editing process—be prepared to revise with an eye toward tightening prose and clarifying structure.
