About the magazine

Grackle & Grackle Writing Workshops is an online literary organization that operates with a migratory, communal ethos, taking its name from the gregarious grackle. Founded to support writers of nonfiction, the organization offers workshops, mentorship, and the annual Turkey Vulture Prize in Nonfiction. Its core mission is to foster rigorous, unflinching creative nonfiction within a supportive, remote community, emphasizing revision, ethical inquiry, and the craft of telling true stories.

Writers should approach Grackle & Grackle with a spirit of revision and community. For the Turkey Vulture Prize, submit polished but risk-taking nonfiction that demonstrates a clear ethical stance and a willingness to confront difficult material. Familiarize yourself with the workshop's aesthetic by reading past winners or participating in a workshop before submitting. Cover letters should be concise, and simultaneous submissions are generally discouraged unless stated otherwise. Expect feedback that is direct, generous, and focused on craft.
