About the magazine

Hare's Paw Literary Journal is an online publication founded on the principle that poetry thrives in the margins—in the odd, the overlooked, and the quietly persistent. Taking its name from the talismanic rabbit's foot, the journal seeks work that carries a charge of luck or survival, favoring poems that are earned rather than merely crafted. Since its inception, it has maintained a deliberately low-profile presence, prioritizing the text over the platform and the poem over the poet's biography. Its mission is to provide a home for writing that resists easy categorization, whether through formal restlessness, tonal strangeness, or an unassuming emotional precision. The journal appears irregularly, often in themed clusters, and has built a readership among those who value discernment over volume.

Submitting your work

Reading periodOpen now

Before submitting, read at least two full issues to gauge the journal's tonal range—it favors precision over polish and surprise over spectacle. Hare's Paw accepts poetry only, typically 3–5 poems per submission, and does not consider simultaneous submissions unless notified immediately upon acceptance elsewhere. Cover letters should be brief and free of publication lists; the editors are more interested in the work than the résumé. Response times can be long (often 3–6 months), and the journal does not charge reading fees. If you have not heard back after six months, a single polite query is acceptable. Above all, avoid sending work that feels workshopped to a formula; the editors respond to poems that seem to have arrived by their own strange logic.
