Editorial focus
Hemlock Journal ’s focus is on the quality of the submissions regardless of the background of the writers or the poets. The editors believe literature belongs to all and must empower each and everyone.
Submitting your work
Hemlock Journal accepts submissions through its website during two reading periods: September 1–November 15 and February 1–April 15. There is no submission fee for print consideration; a small fee applies for expedited digital responses. Send up to five poems, one short story or essay (under 5,000 words), or a portfolio of 3–5 images. The editors value work that demonstrates a clear attention to language and a willingness to take formal or emotional risks. Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please notify promptly if your work is accepted elsewhere. Response times typically range from 4 to 8 weeks. Before submitting, read at least one recent issue to understand the journal's range—it is broad, but consistently favors precision over polish and curiosity over convention.
Please visit the website of the Hemlock Journal and go through its guidelines before submitting.
