About the magazine

Home Planet News is a long-running independent literary and arts publication founded in 1979 by Donald Lev and Enid Dame. Rooted in the small press and downtown New York poetry scenes, it has maintained a steadfast commitment to publishing poetry, short fiction, essays, and visual art that often falls outside mainstream commercial channels. The journal's ethos is one of inclusive, community-oriented publishing, with a focus on work that is accessible, politically aware, and formally diverse. Over four decades, it has provided a platform for both emerging and established voices, fostering a sense of dialogue among writers and artists across generations.

Editorial focus

Home Planet News wants good poems and stories—no stylistic preference. HPN also features thematic groups of visual art as well as recordings of original songs. Although Home Planet is primarily a journal for poetry and fiction, any well-written work will be considered.
