About the magazine

IHRAM Literary Magazine is the publishing arm of the International Human Rights Art Movement (IHRAM), an organization founded on the belief that artistic expression is a fundamental human right and a catalyst for social change. Established to provide a platform for voices that are often marginalized or silenced, the magazine publishes poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual art that engage with themes of justice, dignity, and resistance. Its pages reflect a commitment to amplifying diverse perspectives from around the globe, with a particular emphasis on work that bears witness to lived experience and advocates for human rights. The magazine operates as both a literary journal and an activist project, seeking to bridge the gap between aesthetic innovation and ethical urgency. By featuring writers and artists who confront political and social realities, IHRAM fosters a community of creators who believe that language and image can challenge power and inspire empathy. Submissions are welcomed from both emerging and established voices, with a curatorial focus on work that is emotionally resonant, formally adventurous, and deeply human.

Before submitting, familiarize yourself with the magazine's mission and recent issues to ensure your work aligns with its human rights focus. They seek poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and visual art that demonstrate both artistic merit and a clear engagement with social justice themes. Avoid sending work that is purely abstract or apolitical unless it can be connected to the broader human rights discourse. Simultaneous submissions are generally accepted, but notify them promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter that contextualizes your piece and your background, especially if you are from a marginalized community. Response times can vary, so patience is advised. Most importantly, approach the submission as a contribution to a global conversation about dignity and justice, not merely as a career move.

We will be focusing on the following concerns: First Quarter 2027 - Language, Censorship, and Translation (Submit by November 15th 2026) Of course, we will continue to look, to listen and to learn about issues of concern for creators from Algeria to Zimbabwe, and everywhere in between! Up to 50% of each issue will be reserved for pieces that expand our understanding of human rights and social justice concerns not covered by the themes. Please see the submission guidelines link for more details.
