About the magazine
Infrarrealista Review is a literary and arts publication rooted in the Infrarrealist movement, which emerged in 1970s Mexico City as a countercultural response to established literary norms. Founded by poets including Roberto Bolaño, the movement championed visceral, experimental writing that rejected academic elitism and embraced the grit of everyday life. The Review continues this legacy by publishing creative nonfiction, poetry, and visual art that challenge conventional narratives and foreground underrepresented voices. Its mission is to foster a community of writers and artists who prioritize authenticity, risk-taking, and social engagement over commercial or academic validation.
Editorial focus
Infrarrealista Review invites Texan writers outside of the literary tradition to reject binaries and saddle up their experiences with full autonomy rather than accept labels invited by elitist institutions. The editors believe you own your work and deserve to be paid.

Before submitting, familiarize yourself with the Infrarrealist tradition: prioritize work that is raw, emotionally charged, and formally adventurous. Avoid overly polished or academic prose; the editors value authenticity and a willingness to take risks. Creative nonfiction submissions should blur genre boundaries and engage with personal or political realities in unflinching ways. Simultaneous submissions are generally accepted, but notify promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter that contextualizes your piece within the Infrarrealist spirit. Response times vary, so query after three months if you haven't heard back.
Do not send long CVs or bios. Let your work speak for itself.
