About the magazine

Inkhorn Review is an online literary and arts publication that emerged from a desire to create a considered, uncluttered space for new writing and visual art. Founded in the early 2010s, it has maintained a quiet but persistent presence, favoring depth over volume and prioritizing work that rewards slow attention. The journal operates without a fixed institutional base, relying on a small editorial collective and a remote, distributed model. Its core mission is to publish poetry, short fiction, and essays that demonstrate formal care and intellectual curiosity, alongside visual art that engages with text or the book form. Inkhorn Review has never sought to be a trendsetter; instead, it positions itself as a venue for work that might be overlooked by more market-driven outlets, offering a platform for both emerging and under-recognized writers and artists.

Submitting your work

Reading periodVaries

Before submitting, read at least two recent issues to understand the journal's aesthetic and editorial preferences. Inkhorn Review favors work that is polished but not overworked, and it is particularly interested in pieces that engage with language as a material. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify the editors promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter with your submission, stating your previous publications if any, but avoid lengthy biographical narratives. The review typically responds within three to six months; if you have not heard back after six months, a polite query is acceptable. Do not submit more than once per reading period unless explicitly invited. Visual artists should send a concise portfolio (no more than ten images) with a short artist statement that addresses the relationship between their practice and text or narrative.
