About the magazine

The Key West Literary Seminar is an annual gathering that has convened writers and readers in Key West, Florida, since 1983. Founded by a group of local writers and literary enthusiasts, it was conceived as a winter refuge where serious literary conversation could unfold away from the metropolitan centers of publishing. Over four decades, the Seminar has hosted many of the most distinguished voices in contemporary letters, while maintaining an intimate scale that encourages sustained engagement between presenters and attendees. Its core mission is to foster a deeper appreciation of literature through lectures, panels, and informal exchange, with each year’s program organized around a distinct theme.

The Seminar does not accept unsolicited proposals for its annual program; presenters are invited by the organization’s leadership in consultation with a curatorial committee. Artists and writers interested in participating should first attend the Seminar to understand its tone and audience, and may then submit a brief letter of interest with a curriculum vitae and a description of how their work aligns with a future theme. There is no application fee or formal deadline for such inquiries, but responses are typically sent only when a fit arises. For those seeking to engage as attendees, registration opens in the spring and often fills quickly; early booking is advised.
