Editorial focus
LETTERS journal is published with the support of the Yale Institute of Sacred Music (ISM), and is edited by students at the ISM and Yale Divinity School. The editors seek to engage creative expression with religion, spirituality, and belief, and connect the life of faith (broadly defined) to contemporary art practice.
Submitting your work
Before submitting, read at least two recent issues to understand the journal's aesthetic range. They favor work that demonstrates careful attention to language and a clear emotional or intellectual stake. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify immediately if accepted elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter with your submission, and adhere strictly to the stated word limits and formatting guidelines. Response times typically range from 4 to 8 weeks; query only after 10 weeks. The editors appreciate concise, well-edited prose and poetry that rewards rereading.
Submissions do not need to be about “God” or “faith” in any direct way (though of course it can be). We look for art at its best—that which offers a whole-hearted and honest grappling with matters of world and spirit and truth.
