About the magazine

Lit Camp is a writers' conference and residency founded in 2013 by the San Francisco-based literary nonprofit Litquake. Its founding ethos centers on community, craft, and the belief that serious literary work flourishes in an atmosphere of generosity rather than competition. The program brings together emerging and established writers for workshops, readings, and discussions, with a particular emphasis on the short story and the novel. Over time, Lit Camp has expanded its programming to include themed anthologies and public events, such as the 'Woof' supershort story call, reflecting its commitment to engaging with broad literary themes while maintaining a intimate, retreat-like environment.

Submitting your work

Reading periodVaries

Writers interested in Lit Camp should monitor the Litquake website and Lit Camp's own pages for annual application windows, typically opening in the winter or spring. The admissions process is selective but emphasizes fit with the program's communal spirit; applicants are encouraged to submit work that demonstrates a commitment to craft and a willingness to engage with peers. For themed calls like 'Woof,' follow the specific guidelines closely, including word limits and thematic requirements. It is advisable to prepare a polished writing sample and a concise personal statement that conveys your literary interests and what you hope to contribute to the community.
