About the magazine

Literary Fantasy Magazine, an imprint of The Arcanist, was founded in 2018 with the aim of publishing speculative fiction that prioritizes literary craft and emotional depth. From its inception, the magazine has sought to bridge the gap between genre fantasy and literary fiction, offering a home for stories that are as beautifully written as they are imaginative. Its mission is to champion voices that explore the fantastic not as escapism, but as a means of illuminating the human condition.

Editorial focus

The Literary Fantasy Magazine is on a quest to find the best that Fantasy has to offer. The editors want stories that challenge their convictions, paint new horizons, and put them in the shoes of someone in a land far, far away—be they glorious hero or humble villager. They want stories that are literary in nature, character-driven, and leverage the Fantasy genre to create art .

Writers should familiarize themselves with the magazine's aesthetic by reading several issues before submitting. The editors value originality, strong prose, and narratives that transcend genre tropes. Submissions should be polished, proofread, and accompanied by a brief cover letter that contextualizes the work. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please notify promptly if the piece is accepted elsewhere. Response times vary, so patience is appreciated.
