About the magazine

Lost & Found is an online literary initiative dedicated to the recovery and publication of lost, overlooked, or forgotten nonfiction. Founded on the belief that the archive is not a static repository but a living field of inquiry, the project seeks out essays, memoirs, and reportage that have fallen out of circulation—whether due to historical circumstance, editorial neglect, or the shifting tastes of the market. By recontextualizing these works alongside contemporary writing, Lost & Found positions itself as both a recovery project and a critical intervention, asking what it means to read and write nonfiction in the present. The organization operates without a physical venue, allowing it to remain nimble and responsive to submissions from a wide geographic range.

Submitting your work

Reading periodOpen now

Before submitting, read the existing archive to understand the range of work Lost & Found publishes—this is not a venue for conventional personal essays or timely op-eds. They are drawn to writing that has a palpable relationship to history, memory, or the act of recovery itself. Submissions should be previously unpublished or genuinely hard to find; if the work has appeared elsewhere, provide clear provenance. Expect a slow, careful review process; simultaneous submissions are acceptable but please note them. There is no fee to submit, and the editors appreciate a brief cover letter that contextualizes the work's lost or overlooked status.
