Editorial focus
Lumina aspires to open an accessible and inclusive space for all creatives to take part in the enjoyment of art, publication, and community. Their aim is to be an ever-evolving hub for creative expression, fueled by the desire to represent, support, and empower those who endeavor to share their work, whether for the first time or the hundredth.
Submitting your work
Before submitting, read at least one full issue to understand LUMINA's editorial sensibility, which favors work that is conceptually driven and formally adventurous. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis for online content and during announced reading periods for print. Include a brief cover letter that contextualizes your practice and how your work engages with the current theme or the journal's broader concerns. Simultaneous submissions are permitted with prompt notification of acceptance elsewhere. Expect a response time of 4–6 months; inquiries before that period are discouraged. LUMINA does not charge submission fees and pays contributors in copies and a modest honorarium when funding allows.
Submissions are open to everyone except currently enrolled MFA Writing students at Sarah Lawrence College. You may send one submission per genre per issue. All writing submissions must be in PDF format, and all visual art submissions must be in TIFF or JPEG format. All work must be previously unpublished. We accept simultaneous submissions. Please let us know if your work has been accepted elsewhere by adding a message on Submittable. Visit https://lumina-journal.com/submit for genre-specific guidelines. Please check the website for the latest submission period information.
