Editorial focus
Men Matters Online Journal ( MMOJ ) is a literary journal devoted to topics concerning men, masculinity, gender, culture, politics, sexuality, and challenging men’s roles in traditional patriarchal societies. It is interested in writings that examine what it means to be a man in contemporary society—as fathers, sons, brothers, husbands, partners, lovers, and in all their various shapes and forms.
Submitting your work
The journal welcomes submissions from scholars, writers, and artists at any career stage. Pieces should be original, well-argued, and free of jargon, aiming for a broad educated audience. Typical length ranges from 1,500 to 3,000 words for essays, though shorter reviews and creative works are considered. Simultaneous submissions are accepted if notified promptly. Include a brief bio and indicate if the work has been previously published. Response times vary; query after eight weeks. The editors appreciate clear, compelling prose that advances the conversation on masculinities without polemic.
In general, we prefer creative works that focus on the social, emotional and psychological dimensions of masculinity in the twentieth and twenty-first century. We invite contributions from writers of all genders.
