About the magazine

Mobius: The Journal of Social Change is a literary and arts publication founded on the belief that creative expression is a vital catalyst for social transformation. Since its inception, the journal has provided a platform for voices that challenge dominant narratives, amplify marginalized perspectives, and envision more just futures. By publishing poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and visual art that engage with issues of equity, justice, and community, Mobius fosters a dialogue between artists and activists, scholars and storytellers. Its pages are dedicated to work that is as formally inventive as it is politically urgent, reflecting a commitment to both aesthetic rigor and ethical engagement.

Editorial focus

Established in 1989 as a quarterly print journal with local free distribution in Madison, Wisconsin, Mobius strives to publish challenging fiction and poetry that deal with social change as either a primary or a secondary theme.

Before submitting, read several past issues to understand the journal's tone and scope. Mobius seeks work that is both artistically compelling and socially conscious, so avoid didacticism or sloganeering; instead, let the political resonance emerge from the craft. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify immediately if your work is placed elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter that contextualizes your submission within the journal's mission. Response times vary, so query after three months if you haven't heard back. The editors appreciate concise, well-edited manuscripts and are particularly interested in voices from underrepresented communities.

Work should be pasted into your e-mail, or attached as a single DOC or RTF. Please do not explain or apologize for your work. Do not submit additional work until you have received a response to your prior submission. Poetry and fiction editors are separate entities; please read specific, separate guidelines on website.
