About the magazine

MOUTHFEEL Journal is an online literary and arts publication founded on the conviction that language is a physical, sensory event. Emerging from a network of poets and interdisciplinary artists, it treats the page as a site of embodied cognition—where syntax has texture, rhythm has weight, and the reader's mouth is as engaged as the mind. The journal publishes poetry, short prose, and hybrid text that foregrounds the materiality of language, often in conversation with visual art, sound, and performance. Its mission is to champion work that resists the disembodied digital default, insisting instead on the visceral, the awkward, and the unassimilated.

Submitting your work

Reading periodVaries

Read at least two full issues before submitting. The editors favor work that demonstrates an awareness of language as a medium—not merely a vehicle for content. Avoid explanatory cover letters; let the writing speak. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify promptly if placed elsewhere. Expect a response time of 4–6 months; queries before then are discouraged. The journal does not charge reading fees, but also does not offer payment—contributors receive two copies and a modest honorarium when funding allows.
