Editorial focus
New Square Literary Magazine is the official publication of the Sancho Panza Literary Society, which holds writers residency at Trinity College Dublin each winter and summer. The editors publish fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, as well as book, film, and music reviews. They read all year, but publish twice a year (spring submissions are due by end of April; fall by November 15). This is a forum for literary writing—prioritizing the quality of writing over subject matter or theme.
Submitting your work
Before submitting, read at least two recent issues to understand the magazine's aesthetic range. New Square favors work that takes formal risks but is not obscure for its own sake; clarity and craft are valued alongside experimentation. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter that situates your work in relation to the magazine's interests, and avoid generic flattery. Response times vary, but queries after three months are reasonable.
The quality of the writing is far more important than the subject matter. If you have that inscrutable literary ability, we want to publish you. Talent over theme.
