About the magazine

Ninth Heaven Literary Journal is an independent publication founded in 2015 with the aim of showcasing writing that navigates the liminal spaces between the mundane and the transcendent. Its founding ethos rejects the dichotomy between experimental and accessible, seeking work that is both formally adventurous and emotionally resonant. The journal publishes poetry, short fiction, and hybrid texts, with a particular interest in voices that challenge conventional narratives of spirituality, identity, and place. Over the years, it has maintained a commitment to careful editorial attention, treating each submission as a potential conversation rather than a mere selection process.

Editorial focus

Ninth Heaven is a literary and arts journal dedicated to fostering beauty and truth through thoughtful work.

Before submitting, read at least one full issue to understand the journal's aesthetic range. Ninth Heaven favors work that is polished yet risks emotional or formal vulnerability. Avoid overly sentimental or didactic pieces; instead, aim for precision and surprise. Submissions are accepted year-round via Submittable, with a typical response time of 3-6 months. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please notify promptly if your work is accepted elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter that situates your work in relation to the journal's interests, but keep it concise—the writing should speak for itself.

Before you proceed, please review our Submission Guidelines and Thematic Calendar to ensure your piece meets our standards. If you have any questions, contact us at [email protected] or message us @NinthHeavenCo on Instagram.
