About the magazine

Nude Bruce Review is an online literary and arts journal founded in 2014 with the conviction that vulnerability—creative, emotional, and intellectual—is a radical act. The journal takes its name from a playful inversion of the heroic nude, signaling its interest in work that is unguarded rather than monumental. From its inception, Nude Bruce has sought to publish poetry, short fiction, and visual art that risks sentiment without succumbing to it, favoring precision over posturing. Its editorial mission is to create a space where emerging and established voices can appear together, united by a shared commitment to honesty and craft.

Editorial focus

Nude Bruce Review strives to publish compelling, high-quality poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, supporting and spotlighting the voices of emerging and established writers of all identities across the globe. To this end, NBR doesn’t charge reading fees, and as NBR nominates select pieces published each year for Pushcart Prize consideration. It’s a small, humble operation, and the editors unwaveringly grateful for their loyal readers.

Nude Bruce Review accepts submissions year-round via its website, with occasional themed calls announced on social media. Send 3–5 poems, one story or essay under 5,000 words, or 3–5 images in a single PDF or DOCX file. Include a brief third-person bio and note any prior publications. The editors prioritize work that is emotionally resonant without being confessional for its own sake; they are less interested in irony or academic experimentation. Simultaneous submissions are welcome if you withdraw promptly upon acceptance. Response times typically range from two weeks to three months. There is no reading fee, but the journal does not currently offer payment beyond two contributor copies (digital).

Our tastes are eclectic, so we appreciate a variety of forms and content. Ultimately, we want to read something and be benevolently envious that we didn’t write it ourselves. That said, don't accept any AI-generated work, and we’ll instantly reject hate speech of any kind. Feel free to access archived NBR issues on our website for examples of published work.
