About the magazine

Ocean State Review is a literary journal based in Rhode Island, founded in 2012 with the aim of publishing poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction that reflects the textures of coastal life and the wider human experience. From its inception, the journal has sought to balance formal accomplishment with emotional resonance, favoring work that is attentive to language and place without being provincial. Its pages have featured both emerging and established writers, and it maintains a commitment to fostering a community of readers and writers in the Ocean State and beyond.

Reading periodOpen now

Poets should submit 3-5 poems in a single document, with a brief cover letter and bio. The journal values clear, evocative language and avoids overly experimental or abstract work. Reading periods are announced on the website; submissions sent outside these windows may not be considered. There are no fees for poetry submissions.
