About the magazine
One is an online exhibition space and publication platform founded in 2020 by Jacar Press, a nonprofit literary and arts organization based in North Carolina. Conceived as a digital alternative to traditional gallery and journal models, One presents curated solo and group exhibitions that foreground experimental and interdisciplinary practices, with a particular emphasis on work that engages with social and environmental justice. Its founding ethos is rooted in accessibility and collaboration: each exhibition is developed in close dialogue with the artist, and the resulting online presentation is designed to be immersive, thoughtful, and free to the public. Core to One's mission is the belief that digital space can foster intimate, rigorous encounters with art. Rather than replicating the white cube, One invites artists to consider how their work might be reimagined for the screen, often incorporating text, sound, and interactive elements. The platform also publishes accompanying essays, interviews, and artist statements, positioning each exhibition as a critical conversation rather than a static display.
Editorial focus
One publishes the best poetry from the highly celebrated (Pulitzer Prize & Macarthur Genius winners, National Book Award finalists) to the unknown. International (Ireland, Scotland, Lebanon, Nigeria, Ghana, India, etc.) but in the English language. Poems that the magazine has published have been reprinted in Best of the Net and nominated by Pushcart Contributing Editors for Pushcart Prize anthologies.

Artists should first review past exhibitions to understand One's curatorial focus on social and environmental justice, as well as its openness to digital-native and interdisciplinary work. Submissions are typically accepted via email or an online form, with calls announced on the website and social media. Proposals should include a clear artistic vision, a cohesive body of work, and a thoughtful approach to the online format. Given the collaborative process, artists are encouraged to articulate how their project might engage viewers in a digital environment. While there are no fees to submit, selected artists receive an honorarium and support in adapting their work for the platform. Response times vary, but inquiries are welcomed.
Since you can only submit one poem at a time, send us your best. Competition is fierce, but we are open to new voices.
