Submitting your work
Writers should submit polished work that demonstrates a strong command of craft and a distinctive voice. The editors appreciate pieces that are ambitious in scope yet precise in execution. Before submitting, carefully review recent issues to understand the journal's aesthetic range, which spans from traditional to experimental. Follow the submission guidelines on the website meticulously, including formatting and word limits. Simultaneous submissions are generally accepted, but notify promptly if your work is placed elsewhere. Response times can vary, so patience is advised. The Penn Review values work that engages with contemporary issues without sacrificing literary quality.
We’re seeking work that’s energetic, imaginative, and original. Send us fiction with strong, idiosyncratic voices, creative nonfiction that honestly and eloquently strips all pretenses away, and poetry that uses language with power and precision. To get a feeling for the work we publish, we encourage you to consult the issues available on our website. When you feel ready, please read our submission guidelines and then send us your best work, along with a third-person bio of 100 words or less.
