About the magazine

PhysiOdyssey is a student-led journal based at the University of Glasgow that publishes interdisciplinary work at the intersection of physiology, medicine, and the arts. Founded with the conviction that scientific inquiry and creative expression are mutually enriching, the journal provides a platform for emerging voices to explore the human body, health, and disease through both empirical and imaginative lenses. Its core mission is to foster a dialogue between the sciences and humanities, encouraging contributors to consider physiological phenomena not only as clinical subjects but as sources of cultural, ethical, and aesthetic reflection.

Editorial focus

PhysiOdyssey is an open-access creative writing journal exploring human physiology through short fiction, poetry, and graphic narratives. It aims to promote creativity in science and public engagement with physiology beyond traditional academic formats.

PhysiOdyssey welcomes submissions from students, researchers, and artists at various career stages. Work should engage with physiological themes, broadly construed, and may include research articles, essays, poetry, visual art, and other creative forms. Prospective contributors are advised to consult the journal's website for specific submission guidelines, including formatting, length, and deadlines. Given the journal's interdisciplinary ethos, clarity of expression and a willingness to bridge scientific and humanistic approaches are highly valued. Early communication with the editorial team is encouraged for unconventional or hybrid submissions.

Submissions should be accompanied by a scientific statement to help readers understand the physiological concepts covered in your work, and to clarify any areas where the science has been exaggerated or reimagined for creative purposes.
