About the magazine

Plenitude is a Canadian literary magazine founded in 2012 and based in Victoria, British Columbia. It publishes fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and reviews, with a particular emphasis on emerging writers and innovative approaches to form. The magazine takes its name from a concept in physics and philosophy—the idea of fullness or abundance—and this informs its editorial vision: to seek out writing that feels complete, resonant, and generous in spirit. While it maintains a strong Canadian identity, Plenitude is open to international submissions and has published writers from the United States, the United Kingdom, and beyond. Its print issues appear triannually, and its online presence features supplemental interviews, craft essays, and reviews. The magazine is committed to paying its contributors and to fostering a literary community that values both aesthetic risk and editorial care.

Submitting your work

Reading periodOpen now

Plenitude accepts submissions via its online portal during designated reading periods, typically announced on its website and social media. Fiction submissions should be under 5,000 words; creative nonfiction under 4,000; poetry up to five poems. The magazine values work that demonstrates a strong sense of voice, structural intentionality, and emotional depth. Avoid genre clichés and overly familiar tropes. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify immediately if the work is placed elsewhere. Include a brief cover letter with your publication history, if any—emerging writers are encouraged to submit. Response times vary from two to four months; do not query before then. Plenitude pays a modest honorarium upon publication and provides two contributor copies. For Canadian writers, there are occasional themed calls, such as the fiction submission for Canadian writers, which may have specific guidelines; always check the current call for details.
