About the magazine

Points in Case is an online literary magazine founded in 2009 by a group of comedians and writers seeking a home for short-form humor that was too sharp for traditional print and too considered for the fleeting churn of social media. From its inception, the publication has operated as a curated space for satirical essays, lists, and sketches that prize wit, precision, and a distinct comedic voice over viral ephemera. Its core mission is to champion writing that is funny on the page—work that rewards rereading and reveals a craftsman's attention to rhythm, structure, and the absurdities of contemporary life. Over more than a decade, Points in Case has maintained a lean, editor-driven model, publishing a handful of pieces each week and fostering a community of contributors who value the editorial process as much as the byline.

Before submitting, read at least ten recent pieces to internalize the house style: tight, premise-driven humor that escalates logically and avoids easy punchlines. Points in Case favors complete drafts over pitches, and simultaneous submissions are acceptable if noted. Keep prose pieces under 1,200 words and lists under 800; include a brief cover letter with a one-line bio and any relevant publication credits. The editors respond to every submission, typically within two to four weeks, and they value writers who can take editorial notes without defensiveness. If a piece is declined, wait at least a month before sending another; repeated, thoughtful submissions are welcomed, but generic or mass-mailed queries are not.

We don’t follow a viral or utilitarian formula when it comes to selecting both evergreen and timely comedy articles and lists—if it’s funny, it’s funny, and we’ll do our best to make it work. We’re looking for smart, irreverent, and eloquent comedy writing with personality or pizzazz, and a clear throughline, typically under 1,000 words.
