About the magazine

The Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI) at the University of Missouri was established in 2004 through a grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. It serves as a laboratory for advancing journalism through innovation, research, and collaboration. Its founding ethos is rooted in the belief that journalism is essential to democracy and must evolve to meet the challenges of the digital age. RJI supports journalists, media organizations, and researchers through fellowships, workshops, and applied projects that address practical problems in news production, distribution, and sustainability.

RJI primarily offers fellowships and grants to journalists, technologists, and researchers with projects that address specific challenges in journalism. Applicants should demonstrate a clear problem statement, a feasible plan for implementation, and potential for broad impact. Proposals that are collaborative, scalable, and focused on practical outcomes are favored. It is advisable to review past funded projects to align with RJI's priorities, such as local news sustainability, audience engagement, and digital transformation.
