About the magazine

Scattered Flock Journal is a biannual online literary magazine of speculative fiction that publishes short stories, academic articles, opinion pieces, and artwork. Founded by fantasy literature academics who wanted a barrier-free space where literary, scholarly, thoughtful, and creative pieces could be shared with the world. Scattered Flock is interested in short fiction that pushes boundaries within fantasy, sci-fi, and everything in between. We aim to publish stories with characters, settings, and plots that evoke something magical, surreal, and full of meaning. Take a look at our previous issues to get a sense of our editorial interests. We also feature a select amount of essays, academic articles peer reviewed by MLitt Fantasy Literature academics, and artwork, all about the fantastic.
