About the magazine

Scribendi is the national undergraduate literary and arts journal based at the University of New Mexico. Founded in 1987, it has long served as a dedicated platform for emerging voices, publishing poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual art exclusively by undergraduate students. Its mission is to provide a serious, professionally edited venue for student work, bridging the gap between academic workshop spaces and the wider literary community. The journal is produced by an editorial board of UNM undergraduates, fostering a peer-review model that emphasizes craft and accessibility.

Submitting your work

Reading periodCloses in 6 days

Scribendi accepts submissions from currently enrolled undergraduate students worldwide. Work should be original and previously unpublished. Poetry submissions typically allow up to five poems; fiction and creative nonfiction up to 5,000 words; visual art as high-resolution digital files. Simultaneous submissions are generally accepted with prompt notification of acceptance elsewhere. The journal reads during specific submission windows, often in the fall and spring; check the website for current calls. Since the editorial board changes annually, carefully follow the most recent guidelines. Proofread meticulously and include a brief cover letter with your academic affiliation. Response times can vary, so patience is advised.
