About the magazine

Seems is a literary and arts magazine founded in 2013 with the conviction that the most vital work often emerges from the margins of contemporary discourse. Operating without a fixed institutional home, it has sustained a peripatetic editorial model, assembling each issue around a loose thematic provocation rather than a rigid aesthetic. The magazine's mission is to provide a platform for writing and art that resists easy categorization, favoring work that is formally restless and intellectually curious over work that merely confirms established tastes.

Submitting your work

Reading periodOpen now

Before submitting, read at least one recent issue to understand the magazine's range—it is broad, but consistently drawn to work that feels necessary rather than merely competent. For the general submission call (e.g., Fall 2026, Issue 56), send up to five poems or one prose piece under 5,000 words, along with a brief cover letter that situates your work without overselling it. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify promptly if accepted elsewhere. Response times vary; a gentle query after three months is appropriate. The editors value clarity and concision in correspondence as much as in the work itself.
