About the magazine

SoFloPoJo – South Florida Poetry Journal is a digital literary journal founded in 2015 to showcase poetry that is both formally astute and emotionally resonant. Based in South Florida, it has cultivated a reputation for publishing work that engages with the complexities of contemporary life, from the personal to the political, without sacrificing craft. The journal's ethos is rooted in a belief that poetry should be accessible yet challenging, welcoming voices from diverse backgrounds and aesthetics. Its core mission is to provide a platform for emerging and established poets alike, fostering a community that values precision, risk, and the music of language.

Editorial focus

SoFloPoJo considers all genres of poetry. The editors especially like surrealistic fairy tales, magic realism, haunting prose poems, lyrical vignettes, and crafted narratives. They do not shy away from truth-telling but appreciate the polygamy of art, content, and craft. SoFloPoJo is also the home of the annual Maureen Seaton Poetry Prize in partnership with the Wild & Precious Life Series.

Poets should submit 3-5 poems in a single document, with a brief cover letter and bio. The journal values clarity, originality, and emotional depth; avoid overly abstract or clichéd language. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify immediately if work is accepted elsewhere. Response times vary, but queries after three months are appropriate. Reading periods are typically open year-round, but check the website for updates. SoFloPoJo appreciates poems that surprise and move, so take risks while maintaining control of craft.

Please do not send emotions that rhyme or didactic verses whether political or religious. The most common editorial feedback to our authors is the deletion of the in-case-you-missed-my-point summation at the end of the work. Trust your readers.
